Microsoft Halts XP Sales

Manufacturing.Net - June 30, 2008

REDMOND, Wash. (AP) -- Microsoft Corp. is scheduled to stop selling its Windows XP operating system to retailers and major computer makers Monday, despite protests from a slice of PC users who don't want to be forced into using XP's successor, Vista.

Once computers loaded with XP have been cleared from the inventory of PC makers such as Dell Inc. and Hewlett-Packard Co., consumers who can't live without the old operating system on their new machine will have to buy Vista Ultimate or Vista Business and then legally "downgrade" to XP.

Microsoft will still allow smaller mom-and-pop PC builder shops to buy XP for resale through the end of January. A version of XP will also remain available for ultra-low-cost PCs such as the Asus Eee PC.

A group of vocal computer users who rallied around a "Save XP" petition posted on the industry news site InfoWorld had been clamoring for Microsoft to keep selling XP until its next operating system, Windows 7, is available. The software maker has said it expects to release Windows 7 sometime in 2009.

Last week, Microsoft said it would provide full technical support for six-year-old Windows XP through 2009, and limited support through 2014.

Time to buy Macs instead?  6/30/2008 5:16:00 PM
If you are really torgued off, it's time to spend the extra and go Apple. then take a picture of you with it and send to Gates, saying "Anything is better than Vista". My sister just got Vista and it's execrable.
XP Halt  6/30/2008 6:37:00 PM
What products do major manufactures have that you sell and still got? Sell with the knowledge that it's bugged and needs further refinement. Replace with another product that is even worse than the last. People flock to the new and find that it is same as just different. A broken cycle of tools that require more updates than the last. As a new acquired title of software manipulator I see light at the end of the smoke filled tunnel. If you support the problem the problem will demand more attention. Maybe the reason China is winning in the manufacturing area. We only have software manipulators in the United States. We quit manufacturing to work on our software. I believe that one day we will no longer have a need for what we do best software manipulation will not be the top job. All operating software manipulation will be gone no need to manipulate for things that are done else ware. Maybe we can consult (fool) the others that follow that we really did not have the advantage. Just more worthless software. Sorry for the inconvenience but I must close now. If I do not restart click here and follow the link to the big circle jerk inthenet “Send Error Report” “Don’t Send Error Report” Come on ya’ll wake up. How many products does it take before you can include that statement right there in plain sight for all to see? Imagine an adjustable wrench with that statement written right there on it. Garden shovels “Please restart before proceeding to the next dig”. Hammers with the label please go to http://www.driver.com to obtain an updated driver for that nail or wood combination. A tool that we all have become a custom to working on with or around, I just do not have time to do what I used to do for a living. Any complaints press one for English.
Microsoft Discontinuing Windows XP  6/30/2008 10:26:00 PM
Microsoft is taking unfair advantage of their dominance in the computer field by discontinuing XP in favor of Vista. The question is how long Vista will be available. Perhaps it is time for users to look into other operating systems, e.g. LINUX, or the A-word Apple. I as a faithful "Windows" user feel betrayed.
Save XP.  7/1/2008 7:19:00 AM
Microsoft has lost their customer focus. We want a "fast, efficient operating system". GM thought they could give customers what GM wanted & now they are #2. Beware Microsoft, that's Apple knocking on your back door not your disappointed customers.
The death of XP  7/1/2008 11:03:00 AM
I think it's finally time to move to Linux or FreeBSD.
Hand Over The Key Code Generation   7/1/2008 3:18:00 PM
Since microsoft does not want to support XP, they should make the key code generators public so that people can keep their machines running after a motherboard or uP replacement is performed. I don't see any other downside to the public of them walking away from an otherwise robust OS. Give it to the public that supported it for all those years.
It is getting close  7/1/2008 4:01:00 PM
The doom of Microsoft is at hand. I have used MS products since the 80's and today I am so upset with the moronic decisions they continue to make, I will surely be moving to a different platform. The more people that move to Linux, the better it will become. Microsoft needs to learn that being big is about taking care of your customers and maybe even listening to them once in a while, not just swinging a big stick. I do agree on the Key Code issue, if they won't sell me XP then let me maintain what I got. I WILL NOT use Vista, I tried and decided on XP. It will be XP or Linux, nothing in between.
